Aigamuxa, a man-eating, dune-dwelling creature that is mostly human-looking, except that it has eyes on the instep of its feet. In order to see, it has to go down on its hands and knees and lift its one foot in the air. This is a problem when the creature chases prey, because it has to run blind. Some sources claim the creature resembles an ogre.
In Khoikhoi mythology, the Aigamuxa are a fabulous people who have eyes in the back of their feet. They eat human beings, ripping them apart with the long teeth. Many Aigamuxa stories contain elements of clever victims escaping these savage but stupid ogres. In one of these stories, the trickster Jackal strew tobacco dust on the ground and it got into their eyes, thus enabling him to escape.
Aigamuxa are creatures that plague the Hottentot tribe of Africa. They live in the desert, and feed on the flesh of men. They are easily beaten, however, as their eyes are located in the insteps of their feet. In order to see their victims they must get on their hands and knees and hold up a foot. Other than their misplaced eyes they look like men.
In Hottentot mythology, strange man-eating monsters who are occasionally encountered among the dunes. Aigamuxa have their eyes set on their instep, so that to discover what is going on they have to get down on hands and knees, and hold up one foot.
The Aigamuxa were large man-eating and mostly human looking creatures with eyes either on the soles, in-step or on the back of the heels of their feet.
These powerful monsters lived in the dunes of the desert and could easily rip apart and devour any human prey they captured with their huge, long and sharp pointy teeth.
An encounter with this creepy desert beast is not something to wish on anyone, but an attack and capture could be avoided if the prey could outrun this deadly but disadvantaged monster.
If one could keep in mind the location of its eyes, all that was needed was to take advantage of the fact that the only way it could keep its prey in sight, was to stop and either lay down or do a quick head stand to see what it was chasing.
